Week before last I fell down the stairs. The thick glossy paint on our stairs finally conspired with my woolly socks to send me flying from the very top step right to the bottom, resulting in some very impressive bruises and a determination to fix my stair situation immediately in order to avoid a repeat performance of something that has been waiting to happen for a very long time.
The solution, I believe, is a sisal runner.
We have wooden floors throughout, some natural, some painted off white, and I want something that will add grip to the stairs without being overly carpety or fusty in feel. I also like the feel of antique hemp and linen, and I think that sisal will go very well with certain things that are on my mind lately (I'll share soon, I promise!).
Now I just have to go off and price it. Wish me luck!

Goodness! I hope you are fully recovered!
Sisal rugs and runners will keep the baby off the stairs too. Hard on the hands and knees of a crawling baby.

Please be careful!
Reading this post gave me the shivers - my friend was paralysed slipping on her stairs.
Definitely buy the sisal runner!

Ugh, I fell down the stairs last week and I was on crutches for Christmas! Ouch. Something must be in the air. Of course, I fell down carpeted stairs, so no runner will help my clumsy self. Love the look of the sisal!

A fall down the stairs is such a brutal way to go! Yes, go for Sisal. When I was at Martha, they had installed this carpeting in the audience seating area. It has lasted the entire run of the show. It'll be a life saver;-)
Hope your New Year is getting started on the right foot?!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope you've recovered. I think sisal is a great idea. I have a sisal rug and I like that it blends into the background. Happy new year to you and your family!

Wool sisal is much nicer than the kind made from plants and looks great. Kinder to the sin, too.
